| The
Main Idea is a concentrated, demanding, structured 24-hour a day
job. Although the girls are only with us for ten days, their unique
and special circumstances require our complete and total attention.
They are OUR responsibility and there is no greater trust, than
that placed upon us by the camper's parents. We expect no less
from our staff than their complete dedication to the camper's
needs.
Part
of The Main Idea's mission is to bolster the girls self esteem
and help them develop a sense of responsibility. Beginning at
age 13, campers can take part in the Leadership program. Those
who are successful can continue on as Junior Counselors and at
age 15 or 16 are invited to volunteer as Counselor Aids. There
is one aid for every 3 campers, working hand in hand with older,
more experienced counselors drawn from Walden's staff and other
area camps.
Marnie
Cerrato, Main Idea Director for five years, has retired and "passed
the torch" to her knowledgeable Co-Director of five years,
Lindsey Ehrenwerth. The experience she has garnered will be invaluable,
as she skillfully guides her staff through another successful
summer. Lindsey has a complete understanding and fully supports
the role this program plays in the lives of these young children.
Her energy, creativity and senses of humor combined with the expertise
of the other staff members, create a session filled with laughter,
adventure and a sense of fulfillment.
As
a result, The Main Idea campers acquire new skills, learn about
teamwork, increase their self confidence and are able to build
upon their accomplishments.
