The Main Idea
Philosophy

Helen Herz Cohen, former owner and director of Camp Walden founded The Main Idea in 1968. Her goal was to create a unique camping experience for inner city, and economically disadvantaged, girls.

It was her desire, to instill in each camper the belief, that with positive encouragement, and the opportunity to experience a new environment the Main Idea girls could accomplish anything they choose so long as they held on to their highest dreams.

Wendy Cohen, succeeded her mother as owner and director of Camp Walden and President of The Main Idea. She brought with her over thirty years of dedicated service in the camping industry, and was committed to continuing and enhancing the spirit, goals and values of this program.

Although Wendy's untimley passing in March of 2008, shocked the entire Walden and Main Idea Families, a plan had been formulated, and is currently being implemented to ensure The Main Idea will continue to provided a positive avenue for young girls, to overcome adversity, conquer their limitations and become successful in realizing their dreams and goals
